Simple Tips to Treat Frizzy Hair at Home

Lovisa Hahn

We all dream of soft, shiny, and smooth hair—just like the hair we see in commercials.
But unfortunately, achieving that can be quite difficult. Many people find that their hair feels dry, frizzy, and unmanageable right after washing. You blow-dry and brush your hair, but nothing helps—it just gets bigger and more static. We get it—it’s frustrating. Frizzy and dry hair is a very common issue, especially for those with curly hair. But anyone can experience frizz—whether you have thick curls or fine Scandinavian hair.

Today, Under Your Skin is here to help those of you who are struggling with frizzy, hard-to-tame hair and want to enjoy soft and smooth locks instead. So if you want to learn how to treat and get rid of frizzy hair, keep reading.

What causes frizzy hair?

Before we share our top tips on how to treat frizzy hair, let’s talk about the root cause of frizz. If you’re unsure why your hair is frizzy, here’s your answer:

The main reason for dry, frizzy hair is lack of moisture. Certain ingredients, products, and habits can dry out your hair, making it more prone to frizz and breakage. Frizz essentially means your hair is dehydrated and lacks moisture, which is why it feels coarse. In humid air, frizzy hair absorbs moisture from the environment, causing it to swell—and that’s when you notice the frizz.

So what can you do about it? Hydrate! Below, we share some helpful tips and explain the importance of using the right moisturizing haircare.

How to treat frizzy hair – the best products for frizz

Avoid drying ingredients and products

If you want to tame frizzy hair, it’s important to know that many haircare products might be making the problem worse. Be careful when choosing what you put in your hair. Many hair products on the market contain harsh, drying ingredients.

Shampoos, conditioners, hairsprays, heat protectants, dry shampoos—most of us have a shelf full of them. But overusing products, especially those with strong chemicals, can dry out your hair and lead to more frizz. Our tip? Avoid using too many harsh products. Instead, switch to more natural and clean alternatives that don’t dry out your hair. Stay away from products containing SLS, SLES, alcohol, and other harsh chemicals. That way, you’ll have an easier time managing frizz and keeping your hair healthy.

Choose a moisturizing, non-drying shampoo

Shampoo is the foundation of your haircare routine, so it’s essential to choose a high-quality shampoo that’s gentle on your hair. Stop using shampoos that dry out your hair and leave it feeling frizzy and unmanageable. Instead, go for a natural shampoo packed with hydrating, hair-friendly ingredients. This way, you’ll give your hair the care it needs and combat frizz at the root.

Our organic detox shampoo is designed for all hair types, but it works especially well on dry, dehydrated hair. It doesn’t strip your hair—instead, it helps restore your scalp’s pH balance and moisture levels. This is the first step toward soft and smooth hair.

Use a deeply moisturizing conditioner

Once you’ve washed away dirt and oil, it’s time to revive your hair with a moisture boost. As mentioned, lack of hydration is a leading cause of frizz, so giving your hair more love and moisture is key.

To add moisture and reduce frizz, we recommend using a deeply hydrating conditioner or hair mask. The conditioner from our Detox Kit is specially developed for dry, frizzy hair in need of extra nourishment. Our Organic Conditioner is a versatile product that works both as a daily conditioner and an intensive treatment. Depending on how dry and frizzy your hair is, you can adjust how long you leave the conditioner in. Use it as a hair mask by leaving it in for 10–20 minutes, then rinse and enjoy silky, well-moisturized hair.

Apply a hair oil to the ends to combat frizz

One of the most effective products in the battle against frizz is hair oil. Once your hair is clean, moisturized, and dried, take it a step further by locking in that moisture. Use a deeply nourishing hair oil that protects and softens the hair. A good oil, rich in moisturizing ingredients, is one of the best styling products for frizz.

Our tip is to apply the hair oil only to the lengths and ends to avoid greasy roots while still treating frizz effectively.

Be gentle – stop towel-drying your hair the wrong way

If you want to treat frizz properly and enjoy glossy hair, here’s a tip that doesn’t involve any product: change how you dry your hair. Most people dry their hair by rubbing it with a towel after washing—but even though this is common, it’s not great for your hair.

Instead of rubbing your hair with a terry cloth towel, switch to a cotton t-shirt. This will prevent damage, reduce breakage, and help avoid frizz. This is one of the best ways to tame frizzy hair.

Fight frizz with the right haircare and better habits

By giving your hair the moisture it needs and treating it gently, you’ll be able to say goodbye to frizz and enjoy smooth, shiny hair. Moisturizing products like our best-in-class Detox Shampoo and Conditioner Kit will help you treat frizzy hair the right way and improve the look and feel of your hair.

Har nyss börjat använda Under Your Skin detox kit.
