Lovisa Hahn

Washing, blow-drying, and styling hair can be very time-consuming. That's why it’s so frustrating when hair becomes greasy after just one day. We understand that you want to find a solution to get rid of oily hair as quickly as possible. To help you in the battle against greasy hair, we at Under Your Skin have decided to talk more about this topic and share some powerful tips. There are many different causes of greasy hair, so we will discuss those reasons and what you can do to help keep your hair cleaner for longer after washing. Keep reading if you're tired of having greasy hair right after washing.

    What Causes Greasy Hair?

We want to start by explaining why hair becomes greasy and how to get rid of it. Our scalp contains many sebaceous glands that produce sebum, which is a mixture of dead skin cells and oil. Sebum is produced to protect our skin and ensure the scalp stays moisturized. The amount of sebum you produce and how quickly your hair becomes greasy is very individual and varies from person to person. If you are aware of the different causes of oily hair, it becomes easier to treat and keep your hair cleaner for longer.

    Hormones
Greasy hair and hormones often go hand in hand. This is why many people experience oilier hair during pregnancy or puberty, after childbirth, or due to birth control pills. Hormonal changes can lead to increased oil production in the body, affecting both the skin and hair.

    Stress
Stress can cause greasy hair. As you probably already know, stress is the cause of a long list of different skin, hair, and health problems. Stress also affects hormone balance and increases cortisol levels, which in turn raises sebum production. Due to COVID-19 and all the other stresses people are facing these days, many people may experience greasy hair.

    Medication
Certain medications you take could be the cause of how much sebum your skin produces.

    Dehydrated Scalp
If your hair becomes greasy right after a shower, it could be because your scalp is dehydrated. In this case, your skin needs to overproduce sebum to compensate for this. If that's the case, you need to find the cause of dehydration to avoid dry scalp and greasy hair.

    Diet
A healthy lifestyle has a positive impact on your overall health and also on your hair. If you eat fatty foods, a lot of sugar, and refined carbohydrates, the chance of getting greasy hair increases faster.

How to Get Rid of Greasy Hair – Tips and Products

Now that you know what causes greasy hair, it's time to give you some tips on how to get rid of it and make your scalp feel better and fresher. If you're wondering what helps with greasy hair and how to avoid it, we have the answers.

Switch to a Detox Shampoo for Oily Hair

By using hair products designed for oily hair, you can achieve great results. The first and most important step is to switch to a shampoo specifically for oily hair and without sulfates. A deep-cleansing shampoo that is gentle and non-drying can help remove all the dirt without drying out your scalp and causing more oil production.

Our Organic Detox Shampoo is perfect for anyone with greasy hair and an itchy, dry, or sensitive scalp. If your hair becomes greasy right after washing, it could be because the shampoo you're using contains harsh and drying ingredients like SLS and SLES surfactants. By switching to a gentler shampoo, you'll remove the oil from your hair and cleanse it properly without damaging or drying out your skin. Over time, you'll manage to wash your hair less frequently.

Tip! Always shampoo your hair twice in the shower for the best results

Avoid Frequent Hair Washing for Less Greasy Hair

With every hair wash, you clean your scalp of natural oils. This acts as a signal to your body to produce more sebum so your scalp doesn’t dry out. This results in greasier hair and scalp, and you wash your hair again, causing your sebaceous glands to produce even more oil. Do you see the problem? Therefore, frequent hair washing is one of the leading causes of greasy hair.

To improve your scalp's condition and avoid walking around with greasy hair all the time, it's better to wait a little longer and stop washing your hair so often. Try to wash your hair once, twice, or at most three times a week.

Apply Conditioner and Hair Masks Only to the Hair Ends

When talking about hair care for oily hair, we have to mention conditioner. Whether you use a regular conditioner or a hair mask, there's an important thing to keep in mind. If you want to prevent greasy hair, our tip is to apply conditioner or your hair mask only to the ends. This way, you won't have to worry about your hair feeling unclean and becoming greasy right after washing.

Using our Organic Conditioner can work both as a regular conditioner and as a hair mask. Depending on how much moisture your hair needs, you can leave the conditioner on for 2-3 minutes or 10-20 minutes. We recommend not applying it to the scalp.

Use a Natural Dry Shampoo Between Washes

One way to keep your hair fresh for longer is by using dry shampoo. To avoid washing your hair every day or every other day, it's best to use dry shampoo between washes with our Detox Shampoo and Conditioner Kit. Keep in mind that dry shampoos can also contain harsh ingredients that dry out the scalp. Therefore, our tip is to find a product made with as natural ingredients as possible. This way, you won't ruin your hair detox for oily hair, and you will achieve the desired results.

    Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy Hair

By following these tips and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, controlling hormones, and reducing stress, you can transform your scalp and make your hair feel fresher and cleaner for longer. You don't have to get greasy hair right after washing; it’s all about finding the right treatments for oily hair. Feel free to share your own tips in the comments.
