5 Common Facial Skincare Mistakes – Stop Doing These!

Lovisa Hahn

Many people work very hard to achieve beautiful facial skin.
They spend a lot of money on expensive treatments and skincare products, hoping they will help. And often, they start seeing great results once they begin using products tailored to their skin. But sometimes, even the best skincare products won't have any effect if you use them the wrong way. There are many common mistakes you might make with your skin if you don’t understand how your skin and skincare work. That’s why we’ve decided to highlight some of the most common facial skincare mistakes—and how to use your products the right way. With our tips, you can achieve the best results from your beauty routine, avoid common skincare errors, and finally get smooth, even-toned skin.

1. You're using the wrong products

One of the most common skincare mistakes is using products that aren’t made for your skin type. So the first and most crucial step is to find products that suit your skin. What does that mean?

It means you need to use products and ingredients that actually work for your skin type. There are several different skin types, and it's important to determine which one you have. Once you know, you can build a skincare routine that works for your skin type and condition.

2. You're not cleansing your skin properly

Many people underestimate the importance of thoroughly and properly cleansing their face. Removing all makeup, oil, and dirt from your skin is one of the most important steps in your skincare routine. Your skin is exposed to a lot every day, and pores get clogged easily if you don’t cleanse properly. Dirt, sebum, free radicals, products, and bacteria build up in your pores and can lead to many issues. That’s why it’s necessary to use a facial cleanser both morning and evening. Here are some tips to help you cleanse your face the right way:

  • Double cleansing. If you haven’t heard of double cleansing, it’s time to learn. This is a cleansing method with two steps. First, you wash your face with an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, SPF, and natural oils. Then, follow up with a water-based cleanser to remove leftover dirt and any residue from the first cleanser.

  • Choose gentle products. A common skincare mistake is choosing the wrong type of cleanser. Washing your face with just water or with harsh, drying products are both big no-nos. Water can’t deeply cleanse your skin. If you have dry skin, you might get away with water in the morning and a cleanser at night. But ideally, use a gentle cleanser that won’t dry out your skin—both morning and night. Harsh, stripping products are unnecessary and often cause more problems.

  • Massage the cleanser for about 1 minute. To get the most out of your facial cleanser, give it time to work. Instead of quickly applying and rinsing it off, take a moment to gently massage it into your face for around 1 minute.

3. You're applying products in the wrong order

Even high-quality products won’t give you good results if you don’t use them in the right order. You could use fifteen amazing products, but if you apply them incorrectly, they won’t be effective. Avoid this common mistake in your skincare routine by learning the correct order of application. Here’s the recommended order for your skincare products:

  1. Cleanser

  2. Toner

  3. Serum

  4. Moisturizer

  5. Face oil

  6. Sunscreen (in the morning)

Of course, you don’t have to use every product listed. But if you do, this is the best order to follow. The most essential steps in a complete skincare routine are cleansing, moisturizing, and sunscreen. If you want to add our Natural Glow Face Oil or a serum with active ingredients, that’s a great bonus.

    4. You're exfoliating too often

Exfoliation is an important step that helps improve texture, remove dead skin cells, and reduce uneven tone. But overdoing it can damage your skin. One of the most common skincare mistakes is exfoliating too frequently. This can weaken your skin barrier, dry out your skin, make it more sensitive, and cause a range of skin issues. So be sure to exfoliate just the right amount. Once or twice a week with a chemical exfoliant is usually enough.

    5. A basic skincare mistake – you only use SPF on vacation

Unfortunately, many people associate SPF with vacations, summer, and beaches. But this is one of the worst mistakes you can make for your skin. Sun exposure is extremely damaging. Whether it’s April, July, or November, it’s essential to protect your skin from UV rays. The sun can cause dark spots, wrinkles, sunburn, premature aging, and even skin cancer. If you want to avoid these effects, you need to wear sunscreen every day.

Our top tip is to use SPF 30 or higher to help prevent sun-related skin damage. If you don’t protect your skin from the sun, all the other steps in your skincare routine become pointless. You won’t get the best results from your products if your skin is constantly irritated, dried out, and damaged by UV rays.

Use your skincare products the right way and avoid common mistakes

Poor skin can often be caused by stress, diet, and other habits. But sometimes the reason for your skin issues is simply a few common skincare mistakes. If you want to get the best results from your favorite skincare products, you need to make sure you’re using them the right way. Are you making these skincare mistakes? If so, it’s time to stop—and follow our simple tips instead.

Hej! Jag ska testa serumet och ansiktsoljan. Men ser nu att ni ej har någon ansiktstvätt osv? Vad bör jag komplettera med eftersom att ni inte har allt som ingår i en ansiktsserie.
