When I decided to switch from my traditional hair products to a more natural alternative, I had no idea how much it would affect my hair. I had read about natural shampoo and how beneficial silicone-free formulas can be for both hair and scalp, but I still wasn’t prepared for how my hair would feel during those first few weeks. The Unexpected Transition My hair, which used to feel soft and shiny, suddenly felt rough, frizzy, and strange. It was somehow oily and dry at the same time - which sounds contradictory, but that’s exactly how it felt.I found myself asking: "Why does my hair feel greasy after using natural shampoo?" "Is it normal to have dry hair after quitting silicones?" Pretty quickly, I learned that this is actually a natural transition phase. When you stop using products with silicones - which coat the hair strand and make it feel instantly smooth - your hair needs time to adjust. That shiny feeling I was used to? It turns out, it wasn’t healthy hair – it was the silicone coating. How I Changed My Routine Now that I use natural shampoo and silicone-free conditioner, I’ve had to think differently about how I care for my hair. Now I: - Use much less shampoo - Lather it in my hands before massaging it into my scalp - Add a bit of water and rinse extra thoroughly I rinse very carefully – and that’s actually important, especially when using products with natural oils like almond oil and shea butter. They’re nourishing and gentle, but if not rinsed out properly, they can weigh your hair down. I also started using a Hair Mask once a week, and it’s made a real difference. After showering, I apply a few drops of Hair oil to the ends of my damp hair. It helps reduce frizz, protects my hair naturally, and even offers heat protection. It’s been a few months now, and I can truly feel the difference. My hair feels healthier, stronger, and - most importantly - more real. It might not look as perfectly polished as it did with silicones, but it’s my hair - no longer coated in a plastic-like layer. Switching to natural hair care has been a journey filled with patience and small discoveries along the way, but now I never want to go back. It takes a little time, but once your hair finds its natural balance again, it genuinely feels like it can breathe. And that feeling? It’s worth everything.
